Convention Central: The Basics

The Democratic National Convention takes place Sept. 4 through 6, 2012 in Charlotte, N.C.

You can still sign up for a chance to attend the Sept . 6 acceptance speeches.

The pre-convention CarolinaFest on Sept. 3, which is also Labor Day, takes place on Tyron Street in Uptown Charlotte. The free event promises to bring  families “into the heart of convention activities” with interactive features, live music and speakers.

There will about 6,000 delegates from all fifty states at the convention. There were more than 4,400 at the convention in 2008.

The DNC chairman is Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

10,000 volunteers will help make the convention happen

15,000 members of the media are expected to cover the convention
