From Vick-tim to Vic-tor

Washington, D.C. – Raynard Jackson
What a difference a few years make! For proof, look no further than NFL quarterback, Michael Vick. Early in his professional career, Vick made poor decisions that caused him to serve time in a federal prison. But, look at him now.
Vick is a star quarterback again. He had a phenomenal season for the Philadelphia Eagles last year. In fact, he was named to the Pro Bowl, named by the Associated Press and Sporting News as the comeback player of the year, and named runner-up for the league MVP.
Redemption On/Off the Gridiron
Yet, there are still those who want to deny Vick his right to make a living and move on with his life. If you have a problem with him, then just don’t watch him play football. But, please let those of us who believe in redemption continue to enjoy and witness this inspiring story occurring right before our very eyes.
Vick is still working with the Humane Society to educate others. He continues to speak to students about making good life choices. It seems he has truly turned his life around and is an example for those who have made mistakes.
We all make mistakes. But through our actions, we can show that lessons have been learned. That’s what maturity and wisdom are, and I hope a movie will be made about his journey.
Winning Season
Vick’s victory is rewriting the playbook. In July Nike signed him to an endorsement deal. It is reportedly the first time a major company resigned an athlete is had dropped. And just last month, Vick signed a six-year, $100 million contract with the Eagles. But, more important then the money, Michael Vick has grown up. His conversation is different, his game is different, and his life is different. He is a leader on his team, in his family, and of his life.
He is almost like a person who has cheated death. People like Vick tend to have a new take on life and understand those things that are most important.
Football helped Vick make a living, but his past is helping him make a life. So, Mike, you are no longer a VICK-tim. You are a VICK-tor.
