Juneteenth Celebration

News travels with lightning speed in the 21st century. But long before the smartphone, it spread most often through word of mouth. Two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Texas finally learned of their freedom. They celebrated with an enthusiasm that spawned a new holiday known as Juneteenth. Texan Linda Connor is credited with keeping the Juneteenth holiday relevant in her home state and beyond.
