Keying In On Children
Alicia Keys made a special appearance at the Apple SoHo store in New York. The singer was there to promote her new children’s story telling application for Apple. “The Journals of Mamma Mae and LeeLee” is an animated application that centers around a young New York City girl’s relationship with her grandmother, which is loosely based on Key’s own childhood. The application is an interactive format that encourages exploration through music, storytelling, writing and games. When using the application users are able to go through LeeLee’s 3D animated bedroom. They can play on her piano, write in her journal, open her music box and read stories right out of the book case.
In an interview, Alicia Keys said that her son Egypt was the inspiration behind the application. “I was just getting introduced to kind of the TV shows and the DVDs and all the things you start kind of introducing your kids to, and I thought how cool it would be to be a part of something that really allows them to hear music from different places, different cultures, different sounds,” said Keys. “That’s what we’re able to do with this.”
The application is now available for $3.99 and can be used on both the Iphone and Ipad.
