Michael Baisden Gets Out the Vote
Syndicated radio personality Michael Baisden made an appearance in Philadelphia for a debate watch party. It was clearly a different side of Baisden, instead of taking his loyal listeners for a ride through his sometimes racy show topics the self proclaimed “bad boy of radio” turned it down a notch to discuss a more important issue: the presidential election.
“We get together for a lot of things that are fun,” said Michael Baisden. “I wanted us to get together for something civic and there’s nothing more important civically than voting.”
Inside the auditorium of Universal Audenreid High School, Michael Baisden spoke to hundreds of students, parents, teachers and community activists. Baisden wanted the people gathered to know just how important it is to re-elect President Barack Obama. Michael Baisden discussed everything that President Obama has accomplished including the passing of the Lilly Ledbetter Act, the Affordable Care Act, the Economic Stimulus package and ending the war in Iraq; a feat that has been constantly downplayed by the Republican Party.
Although, Michael Baisden knows that he won’t reach nearly as many people in person through a debate party than he would through his radio show broadcast in his mind Republicans have raised the stakes.
“Republicans have gotten crazier,” he said. “When you go from [John] McCain, who was at least very rational when it came to civil issues, was very responsible when it came to spending, and now you have the Republicans who have completely gone off the reservation when it comes to social issues, when it comes to military spending when it comes to women’s rights, and we’re talking about Roe vs. Wade in 2012; it was obviously important to get [President Obama] elected in 2008 because of how the country was going, but now it’s important in terms of keeping things from going over the edge in terms of how they’re managing the country financially and in terms of these social issues.”
