Soul of the South Set to Launch May 2013
A new television network tailored to attract African American viewers will debut on May 27. Soul of the South Network (SSN) will be headquartered in Little Rock and will broadcast in dozens of cities throughout the South as well as in Saint Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Detroit.
SSN will offer five hours of news, including a two-hour morning show, an evening news program, and a mix of original and syndicated programs. Network executives say the programming will be “based on Southern family values.”
Funding delayed the network’s much-anticipated 2012 launch. But, SSN executives say funding is complete, including tax credits and some equity financing from the state of Arkansas.
