Dr. King Finally Gets Solo Celebration in Arkansas
It took more than 34 years after Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday became a federal holiday for the state of Arkansas to celebrate the Civil Rights icon exclusively on the day set aside in his honor. Last year Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson led the state’s Republican-majority legislature in a hard fought effort to separate the longstanding salute to Confederate General Robert E. Lee from the federal honor to Dr King.
