In honor of President’s Day, TheVillageCelebration recognizes the pioneering legacy of the nation’s first African American president, President Barack Obama. The Obama White House set standards with its adherence to scandal-free leadership, recognition of African American talent and inclusion of Americans from all ways of life. Here are five examples:
President Obama appointed the first African American Attorney General, Eric Holder.
President Obama added a bust of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King to the Oval Office.
Another First: President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama displayed the work of an African American woman in the White House.
The 44th President championed the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare which provided the first path to universal coverage in the United States.
Black Americans around the nation delighted in the historic sight of daily representation in the White House as the Obamas raised two daughters on a global stage.
