Britain Crowns A New Monarch For The First Time In 70 Years
On a rainy day in London, the coronation for King Charles III was held. The last time a new monarch was crowned he was a child. It was 1953, and his mother – the late Queen Elizabeth II who reigned for 70 years – ascended to the throne.
The Archbishop of Canterbury led the ceremony, which is steeped in the Christian faith, by emphasizing the significance of the role of the monarchy.
He said, “Service is love in action … Today we have the honor of being in this Abbey with so many who show such love.”
As he spoke to those gathered, the Archbishop added, “Each of us is called by God to serve – whatever that looks like in our own lives. Each of us can choose God’s way today.”
The ceremony was followed by a procession to Buckingham Palace with the new King and Queen riding in the Gold State Coach.
