America Chooses Joe Biden And Kamala Harris To Lead The Country

After days of vote counting in the battleground states of Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada, the Associated Press declared Joe Biden the next president of the United States.”Our nation is shaped by the constant battle between our better angels and our darkest impulses. And what presidents say in this battle matters. It’s time for our better angels to prevail,” Biden said.

Senator Kamala Harris, a Black woman, made history as the first woman ever elected Vice-President.

She said, “While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.”

Former President Barack Obama congratulated Biden, who served as Vice-President during Obama’s eight years in the White House. Obama and former First Lady MIchelle Obama also campaigned for Biden, leading the call for acitive participation at the polls in the midst of a pandemic by either voting in-person or mail-in ballot.

Biden and Harris were greeted at their campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware Saturday by supporters who honked their horns and cheered.

All around the country, Democrats celebrated. Social media feeds were filled with jubiliation and the streets with dancing.

The hopes of many in a nation weary of four tumultuous years under the Trump administration embraced the new leadership.

Essence Magazine released a copy of its collector’s edition touting Harris’ place in history.

And, around the country, Georgia voting rights advocate, Stacey Abrams, received praise for her role in turning Georgia into a blue state by registering hundreds of thousands of new voters — a role she assumed after her controversial loss in the 2018 gubernatorial race. 

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey, who hosted a series of events urging African Americans to vote tweeted a message of hope that appeared to sum up the emotion of the majority on the first evening of a hard-fought new beginning.
