Convention Central: The Basics
The Democratic National Convention takes place Sept. 4 through 6, 2012 in Charlotte, N.C.
- Time Warner Cable Arena is the center of the action for most of the convention speeches as well as the nominations, through Sept. 5
- The Charlotte Convention Center is the hub for volunteers, delegate meetings, and journalists covering the convention.
- President Obama and Vice President will accept their nominations at Bank of America Stadium on Sept. 6.

- Here’s how to apply for a community credential
The pre-convention CarolinaFest on Sept. 3, which is also Labor Day, takes place on Tyron Street in Uptown Charlotte. The free event promises to bring families “into the heart of convention activities” with interactive features, live music and speakers.
There will about 6,000 delegates from all fifty states at the convention. There were more than 4,400 at the convention in 2008.
The DNC chairman is Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
