Former President Barack Obama Endorses Joe Biden for 2020 President
Former President Barack Obama endorsed his former Vice-President, Joe Biden, today for President in the upcoming November election. The announcement has been highly anticipated and was made as criticism of the current administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic has increased.
Obama said selecting Biden as his running mate in 2008 was one of “my best decisions”. He outlined Biden’s connection with everyday Americans, reminding them that Biden understands tough times. Biden became the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate when Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race last week. Biden and Sanders were the last two candidates in a field that began with 24 vying for the nomination.
Biden, who turned around a losing campaign on the strength of Black voters in South Carolina and other southern states during primary elections, has promised to choose a female running mate. With officials rearranging plans based on the severity of the coronavirus pandemic, Democrats have postponed their convention until August. Republicans are also scheduled to hold their convention in August with President Donald Trump running for re-election.
