The ‘Descendants,’ A Documentary About The Last Slave Ship, Missed An Oscar Nod. But The Story Of Survival Has Fans Worldwide
Residents of Africatown, Alabama, welcomed Black History Month 2023 with their annual “Spirit of our Ancestors Festival” which honors the 110 captives aboard Clotilda, the last slave ship. When slavery ended, they longed to return home to Africa ,but a lack of money kept them in America. They built the only 19th-century settlement founded by the formerly enslaved that still exists.
