Juneteenth Celebrated As A Federal Holiday For The Third Year
As the Juneteenth weekend approaches, 28 states and the District of Columbia have declared it a federal holiday. Juneteenth National Independence Day celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.
There are still some states where Juneteenth remains a day of observance but not a holiday.
In Missouri where Juneteenth is a federal holiday, a weekend of events is planned. Last summer TheVillageCelebration featured Kansas City’s festivities.
